The regular Gjallarhorn is available from the mission. The Iron Gjallarhorn was only issued for pre-orders. If you had the Iron Gjallarhorn on your console, he would get it when he played on your console and it would show up in his inventory. However, when he went back to his console, he would not have the license for it and would not be able to equip it. The regular Year 3 Gjallarhorn will work.

does nobody know that the iron gally comes with collectors edition? when you get the iron gally from the post master its at lvl 3. I got him the exact same thing i did.also he redeemed his collector edition code on his console. in the kiosk, right next to the regular gally, it says undiscovered. even though he has the iron version in his inventory

Rise of Iron doesn't have a Collector's Edition. There is the Destiny: The Collection bundles or Destiny: Rise of Iron standalone DLC. To get the Iron Gjallarhorn, you needed to preorder one of these. the collection. which still makes no sense. he has the Iron Gally installed on my xbox, but he will have to double check him. and again, i got him the exact same thing i did. and i didn't preorder.

Your console has the license for it somehow. That's why he got it when he played on your console but can't equip it on his console. He's missing the license for it. The normal Gjallarhorn is exactly the same, just a different color.

the thing is if I have it by inputting my collection copies code into my xbox why does he have the license when he redeemed his roi collection code into his xbox?
