Your own definition points towards Atheon being the VoG itself, rather than our perception of that to be dominant as body within. As a robot I can understand being both and so can any Vex. This points towards us never completing VoG. Don't just flip out and say " but I saw Atheon's death" In that kind of construct we would perceive that. Just like you can understand "I am my arm and more than that myself." Keep looking. The answer rests at the merging of dark and light.
Atheon may still be alive and a good guy...
The Vault of Glass. It is one of the Vanguard's greatest triumphs. The destruction of Time's Conflux. A victory over the Vex collective mind. (Paradox dialogue)
There is no way that Atheon could ever be a good guy. As a Vex, Atheon is linked to the Vex Collective Mind, which is the thought and knowledge of all the Vex. Any Vex units we see are just thoughts and processing power derived from the Collective Mind. Yes, there are subminds, and different programmings that carry out different tasks, but they are all part of the same one mind, and Antron is no exception. If Atheon was good, all of the Vex would be. But they aren't, so neither is Atheon.

How do we know they're not good? They might be, we just have never made contact (like, communication) with them before. Even though we fight them, they may know something we don't. Look up those videos on the darkness being good. There's a million of them.
-
Yes, and all million of those videos are wrong. By reading the Books of Sorrow, we have learned the true goals and purpose of the Darkness; eradication of all life so that only it remains. As an aside, the Vex don't serve the Darkness directly. They serve it indirectly by way of being opposed to the Light, but they are, for the most part, unaware of the struggle of Light and Dark. The Vex are also not good. They seek to become an emperor of all outcomes, which means that everything they do serves to let the Vex conquer a timeline or at the least, allow them to keep persisting in said timeline. We have records of them attacking us in the Golden Age, so their hostility isn't a matter of "we shot them first."

That makes since. I've never been a fan of the Darkness-is-good thing, its just pretty cool and interesting to me. I also haven't completely read the Books of Sorrows; I should get to that.

Edited by The Muzzy98: 5/10/2017 3:47:21 AMI have a BoS summary that is 4/5 of the way done which can be found on my Archive. It's not the same as reading the real thing, but it's good for those who don't want to go through the hassle of reading them or don't understand some parts. I'll finish it eventually if I can ever overcome my procrastination habits.

Ok, cool.

If I were a guardian I would make some good robots from Vex part. Call it an Exo, or something. Having that robot would let me modify Vex programming.
-
But the Vault, and by extension, Atheon, predate the collapse by millions of years. There's no way a Guardian created Atheon.
-
The Vex were developed to serve someone. It follows, change to the programming may be the cause of problems we have with them. Perhaps it was Rasputin who did this as an AI, and went rampant due to Vault process. Like cortana in halo. I could just see ras trying to build an army and secret and mistakenly hiding the army from us.
-
Rasputin was created in the Golden Age. The Hive encountered the Vex in the Books of Sorrows when the Vex invaded Oryx's throne world. As a result of this conflict, along with others, Oryx creates the Dreadnaught. When scanning the three statues in Regicide, Ghost comments that the Dreadnaught and everything in it was created billions of years before the Earth was even formed. And the Vex were around before the Dreadnaught was created. It is impossible for the Vex to be servants if Rasputin.

This programming battle would be far later in the timeframe. Perhaps Vex logic needs adaptation to it's protective platform to serve people who can respawn from ghost. Dead coming back to life is an Oryx power, and would require modification of programming to adapt. The sol in the black garden may have been the process to develop that.
