Greetings Guardians. This is a compilation of #lore's best and most educated theories. First though, what is a theory?
Theory: a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.
Synonym: Hypothesis, conjecture
It's important to remember while reading these theories that, while they are based off of in-game evidence and follow a logical train of thought, these posts are hypothesized and educated conjecture and, as such, should be taken with a grain of salt.

1 ReplyEdited by Song_Of_Eris: 11/14/2016 9:45:45 AMRegarding the lore of Lord Felwinter, consider the tales found in Old Norse texts. Specifically the one regarding Balder's death. To paraphrase the tale; Balder (the god of light and truth) had visions of his own demise, which considering the Norse Pantheon were not Immortal was exeptionally distressing. He wished to prove otherwise, so he hosted a festival of sorts to put his fears to rest. Catalogueing all manners of possible demise he called upon the other gods to participate. Long story short, Loki (the trickster god) arrives and finds Hod (the god of darkness) who is sitting in a corner because he is blind and unable to aim, therefore unable to participate in Balder's test. Loki guides Hod's hand as he throws a spear, which kills Balder. Loki runs away and Hod (the darkness) is blamed. Sound familier? Bungie's obsession with Norse tales is apparent in all facets of Destiny. Could Felwinter's Lie be that he (somehow) played the part of the trickster and guided Rasputin? Or does it go deeper? Was Balder the Ideals of the Iron Lords? Was Rasputin not wholly responsible for the wounding of the Traveler? To put it all into context, The Iron Lords symbol of the Ironwood tree comes from the Norse depiction of the World Tree. Saladin's eternal vigil is highly remniciant of Heimdall and his Gallerhorn. Put all that with Master Rahools comments about the Norns (specifically those who control: Past, Present, and Future) and his partial recital of the poem regarding the coming of Ragnarok, we may yet have a lead. Not just in the Grimore, but in the inspiration of Destiny. Further more, we are Guardians. Guardians of what? Guardians of The Last City, an alligory for Asgard. Felled in (presumably) battle, (our knowledge of firearms is astounding. Not to mention the muscle memory.) Risen by beings who are akin to Valkyries, so we may protect The Tower (Odin's Hall) and the mighty walls of The Last City (Asgard)! It's all pretty metal.

4 RepliesEdited by Jcaf8: 11/10/2016 4:49:31 PMThat definition is incorrect. Nor is a hypothesis a synonym. A theory(plural theorem) is a hypothesis(which is an educated guess about anything that isn't fact, but supported by evidence and/or experiments using deductive reasoning) that has been tests by many different subjects and experimenters to conclude that there is viable evidence that the hypothesis is indeed more than a hypothesis, and is a theory. Almost every game theory is a hypothesis, but using the word theory makes it sound cooler and also is the simpler term for the phenomenon. Edit:Forgot to mention that this is the definition for a scientific theory, which is a true theory and really should be the only way this is used. Any "theory" on games should loosely follow this definition and therefore most patterns and in game texts in games that lead to "theories" are most likely flawed in some way, or singularly supported by one person only and are really a hypothesis. Most game theories can never be proven unlike scientific theories which like evolution can turn from hypothesis, to theory, to scientific law.

1 ReplyI would just like to give a shout out to a scientific theory which is often in the media contracted to just theory and is sometimes mistaken for the definition that you gave. A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed, preferably using a written, pre-defined, protocol of observations and experiments. Scientific theories are the most reliable, rigorous, and comprehensive form of scientific knowledge.

1 ReplyI got a theory for you! The vex already exists in every time stream because they've already won. The vex exist at the end of time, at the end of eternity. They time travel back in time slowly watching them selfs win. This is why the vex always seem to have more power behind them. They have traveled back to the beginning of the universe and adjust their actions based on how well they then fair in the future. They win no matter what but they don't know how so they constantly mess up. Since they can't predict guardians (because we are already dead and our time lines ended but were revived and started a new stream that can't be accounted for) they fear that their existence is in jeopardy, which it is. The vex want to be in our universe because the void is a realm of possibility and not reality. This causes them pain seeing as finished time streams is what they want to predict, and ultimately see through to the end. To sum it up, the vex exist at the end of time but don't know how they got their due to our existence. We are a unknown variable so we jeopardize their finality.

Just read the Sol Progeny post. Just imagine how trippy defeating the Vex is going to be...

50 RepliesPlease don't misuse or misrepresent the word theory. Theory: an abstract inferrential deduction of a series of facts. This is an interesting read but the word theory is thrown around here far too much when the topic of discussion is mere conjecture. Theories are rarely wrong due to the extensive research and observation required by the Scientific Method. No one questions the Thoery of Gravity, the Germ Theory or the Atomic Theory. Only people with a twisted agenda and confirmation bias oppose the Theory of Evolution. I mean no disrespect but will not stand pat while the institution that gave you the internet is diluted. "In Science We Trust."

1 ReplyVery awesome theories! I recently came up with one for Saint-14 and Osiris but it's nothing compared to the amount of work you've put in!

2 RepliesI believe there will be one more type of small expansion that focuses on vex. We as guardians will somehow open a time gate that allows us to revisit old raids and crap probably. "Vex void" was supposed to be a dlc to come out, but it's probably scrapped by now.

5 RepliesBro what about the Hive Queen? Every bug needs a mommy

6 RepliesI have a question for you and it may be really dumb but you seem to be the guy to ask The Heart of the Black garden looked like a Taken Blight ball on steroids sort of. Is that just a coincidence? I mean if you took the Heart blob black ball and put it in Kings Fall raid and had it pop open and have an Oryx minion pop out nobody would bat an eye because it looks so like a Taken entity
