4k @ 30fps, or 1080p @ 60fps?
Performance over resolution all day...
English
-
60FPS? gimme dat unlocked frame rate all day. fun fact: many "esports"pros use super low resolution with insane FPS to get that 30 millisecond advantage over the guy with normal settings.
-
Edited by Psychic Donuts: 7/2/2016 9:18:44 AMUnlocked framerate on a console? Hmm. This might be what devs do to make their f(g*)ame run better on Scorpio. It is more powerful so if they just unlock it then it will get a higher framerate.
-
What you said makes zero sense. Consoles use vsync when most pc gamers now use high refresh rate monitors with no fps cap on their games. No console game will release at over 60 or without vsync.
-
It would be bad for performance but if a dev didn't want to optimize their game for the Scorpio they could just unlock the frame rate and let the console run it at as best as it could. It would be uneven and it would look choppy but they wouldn't have to do much work.

Phil Spencer stated in an interview at e3 that the devs can use scorpio power however they see fit. They won't be forced to hit 4k on all games. They can do 1080/60. 1440/60.....insane graphics, physics...the possibilities are endless. But hey, if you want to belive a hack job "games journalist" instead of what actually came out of Phil's mouth...then by all means, be ignorant

Edited by Retro_Spective: 6/28/2016 7:29:35 PMI know the specs, developers will be targeting 4k, 30fps on the Scorpio. Certain games will be awesome at that resolution. I'd personally choose 1080p @ 60fps, over 4k @ 30fps. I can't play a 30fps game for long periods as it gives me headaches, that's not a problem with 60fps games.
-
I'm so glad you know the specs of scorpio. Did you not see the interview with Phil at e3?...-blam!- it....nevermind, it's like talking with a brick wall
-
Never trust a company shill...
-
You must not play many games then if 30 fps gives you headaches. I'm guessing your library consists of mostly shooters
-
bruh. if you consistently game at 60 FPS or higher then the 30FPS (or w/e next down step) is a downgrade that you physically perceive as lag. it's not a stretch that he'd get headaches from low FPS after getting used to high FPS.
-
I can swap between 60fps and 30fps relatively easily. Play Halo 5 all day, swap down to Destiny or Fallout, and I have no problems at all, don't even perceive it as lag.
-
I do play 30fps games, but not for long periods. I'll take a break every half hour, or stop playing the game.
-
The scorpio will run games at 1080p 60fps.
-
Developers will be told to target 4k @ 30fps. That's why Phil Spencer said you need a 4k TV. Have a read of this article. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-are-4k-visuals-really-the-best-use-for-playstation-neo-and-project-scorpio
-
Edited by Psychic Donuts: 6/28/2016 11:37:04 AMThey will not be limited by MS. They will not say "don't use the box's full capabilities." Some devs will get 4k @ 60fps. Turn 10 will be one of them. In my comment I said it was possible and I still believe that. Whether all devs do it is up to said devs.

Edited by DELIVER ME MEMES: 6/28/2016 11:59:34 PM4K @60FPS? they'd have to find some way to enforce either dual DisplayPort 1.4a or HDMI 2.0 and block the older cables from being used, just because HDMI 1.4 and older DP don't have the required physical cable bandwidth to carry the 4K signal that strong.
-
It will have full 4k video output. If it didn't then what is the point of even making the console.
-
i'm talking about physical cables. they're going to need some way to force people to use newer cables made to a newer standard revision that allows them more physical bandwidth for the signal to go through. a shitty analogy, if you will: everyone uses pooperduper brand toilet connections(cable). most people use the old model, which will not work with the amount of waste(signal) that the newer food chains are causing with their new ultracornbeans in everything technology(4k//UHD+HDR). In response, pooperduper realized that the old models used to be fine for the old bland food people were eating(1080p) but the newer models can handle that signal rush just fine. stores (vendors) don't really sell/use the new pipes for some unknown reason, and thus many people don't know the difference though, and just use the old one. they have to find a way to make people use the new connectors so it doesn't have a problem occur..
-
Edited by Psychic Donuts: 7/2/2016 8:45:08 AMWouldn't buying new cables like that come with the fact that you should to have a 4k TV?
-
HDMI is a technology consortium, that develop standards and charge people for the right to use their cable technology, just like Blu-Ray, and Display-Port. Display-Port is the more open source/less dickish of the two, though. in order to have the new standards adopted, both end devices (signal generator and receiver) must support that newer standard, and the end user must use the right cable. manufactuerers usually give you a cable that's short as f***k and most people get longer aftermarket cables.

That article clearly states that 4k, 60fps isn't possible, even with games such as forza that are not as graphic intensive as other games.
-
Edited by Psychic Donuts: 6/28/2016 11:57:02 AMDid you just say that Forza is not graphically intensive? Have you ever played it? It is the most realistic looking game to date. It has insane amounts if physics going on all at the same time. The cars have incredible detail. You try downloading Apex to your PC and tell me how easy it is for you to run it at 1080p 60fps or even 4k @ 60fps. Quite frankly, I don't really care what the article says. Microsoft says native 4k games are possible on the Scorpio. Turn 10 is one of their most beloved developers. They will have a say in the box's power and their say will be to put enough power in it to run 4k games at 60fps, which it will.
-
Racing games aren't graphically demanding, because you're not going to notice background images, textures while driving 120mph. Developers use good techniques, make them look good, but they're not as graphic intensive as other games such as the Witcher 3, Far Cry primal etc. Project cars also shits all over Forza on PC. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/3qp9h2/which_racing_game_has_the_best_graphics/?St=ipzgotdk&sh=4ba52675
-
as a member of the PCMR, The Witcher 3 is not graphically intensive(they scaled it back from the E3 show off). it only renders the immediate area around geralt that he can see, everything else goes unrendered. for example, google "the witcher 3 melting peasant faces". the game does bizarre things when it thinks geralt isn't around and only corrects it when it sees geralt approaching.

You do understand that Reddit is primarily a PC gaming community and when this thread was made, Forza Apex was still a concept. Bad source. Watch the video in the link I put. Project Cars a great racer for an indie game but Forza tops them in track texture quality, car models, and (which you cannot see in the video) physics. A whole Forza track doesn't fit in the memory of an Xbox or any PC to date. They are destroying and rebuilding the track as you go. You will not ever find a single muddy texture. You can race around at 120mph then freeze a shot and look at the track, car, barriers, sky, anything. All top-notch detail. I'm not just talking about Apex, I'm talking also about FM6. On console and PC it is absolutely solid. This is especially amazing on console. Imagine a race on Spa, if you are a racer you know this track; you have 24 cars on their second lap around. There is a full 3d puddle coming up on the next turn. You are drafting when the guy in front of the car you are drafting hits the puddle to fast and the car you are drafting slams into him completely flipping the car you were drafting. You are then forced to spin out of control which slams you into the tire wall. Just a quick story. But think of this, during all of this, the rain on your windshield is trailing different ways as you spin. The perfect air movement of the car is helping you draft. The full 3d puddle allowed the guy who originally flipped to hydro-plane. They do all of this and even more (tire heat, full sim damage, suspension, tire air pressure, full aerodynamics of every car, etc) at 1080p 60fps, solid. Console and PC. This is not a small accomplishment.
