Season 14 isn't a continuation of 13. It's a series of short stories and mini series from the RvB universe. In all honesty, I would be extremely surprised if the continued with the main story.

So they are going to magically appear in a different setting? I'm aware of the multiple story arks, it wouldn't make sense if they didn't elaborate on what happened though

It's not after the fact. It's stories from anytime in the universe. Hence the season 14 trailer having freelancers in it that have already been killed in realtime.

Actually it would be interesting if even all the fragments together failed The reds and blues wouldn't be killed, but something more unpredictable, like locus going to their aid
