When people think of the worst subclass in the game for PvP, they immediately think of Defender. Why? Great question, and there is 1 HUGE reason why Defender is regarded as the worst.
There are many great Defenders out there, I am not too shabby myself. Don't think I mean if you use it, you suck. I love playing it, but want it to be viable in comparison to other subclasses.
The super. Ward of Dawn is simply the worst super, but the super has the greatest potential of any. So why is it so bad? Anyone who uses or has used Defender knows that it can be countered with minimum effort. Anything can destroy the bubble. So I was thinking to myself: How could this be better? When I thought about a suppression field inside the bubble. Now I know this has been suggested before. But people think it would be OP or should be an Exotic Armor Piece.
But think about it. What would a suppression field do for the super? It would actually make the super something to stay away from, or think twice about fighting. I know that if I see a bubble I mindlessly want to smash it with a FoH.
An SF (Suppression Field) would actually grant safety to the user of the bubble. No more Nightstalkers being able to wombo combo the Titan in their bubble.
I think that this is something that should be apart of the Defender subclass. It would actually eliminate most of the effortless counterplay that no other super is affected by.
Let me know what you think!
Edit: Lots of comments about being good with Defender. Go ahead and read the spoiler above where I said that using defender doesn't mean you are destined to perform poorly. I don't need to hear about gimmicky strategies anymore.

Just rework the super. Make it void shield you summon and use to either shield your allies or bash your enemies, both draining super energy
-
3 RepliesYou're an idiot. Learn to use suppressor grenades properly and you won't need to worry about any super. See a Golden Gun or Hammer of Sol coming? Plan accordingly knowing 2 hammers or golden shots will drop your shield. Any other super, nova bomb included, have to get into your nade range to use it on you.
nothing wrong with defender
-
1 ReplyFirst let's focus on making it strong enough to withstand a landfall, then we can focus on other things.
-
3 RepliesThat sounds like a great idea, but the question becomes what would be the counter for it? Nova Bomb and maybe Golden Gun would be the only other options to take the Bubble out from a distance. Hammers barely do enough damage to the Bubble, so that long distance super would be a waste.
-
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6 RepliesPersonally, I want an exotic that turns Ward of Dawn into a giant hamster ball. Enemies who get run over are OHK'd automatically (crushed) and you move faster while WoD is active. Tell me that wouldn't be funny to see in crucible. "I came in line a hamster ball!"
-
I would like to see an exotic that would allow you to move with your bubble, but shortened it's duration.
-
1 ReplyHelm of Saint-14 + Armor of Light equals god tier. Also, let them waste a super on my bubble, their waste.
-
1 ReplyDefender would rule control if this happened.
-
2 RepliesDefender does not need a buff but it could use some other exotics
-
I say just make bubble bigger

7 RepliesIdea! Exotic Titan Gauntlets: The Lockdown Protocol Our defenses must not fail; In the event of catastrophic damage engage failsafe and await fireteam support Exotic perk: Desperate Measure Absorbing Ward of Dawn draws power from the Void creating an invulnerable stasis field around your Titan and suppressing assailants.
I know it sounds a lot like Armor Lock. The inspiration for it is there.
So the exotic perk would work like this- using the same button combination as activating your super, your Titan will subsequently slam their fists together, destroying Ward of Dawn, and become invulnerable and immobile for 5 seconds. While in this lockdown state, any damage inflicted will be absorbed and suppress (that whole drawing from the Void business) the source of damage. What do you think?

complete and udder obliteration. take away its pansy space magic shield and give em a trash can lid and an umbrella.
-
Defender wrecks in control. I went on some crazy streaks the last few days.
-
Yet the defender is arguably the best for PVE
-
It's not that it's bad it just doesn't have any major offensive capabilities beside weapons of light. On that note 6 defender Titan on IB control = 9 out of 10 win
-
Suppression field inside and aoe damage when destroyed, there should be a downside to entering or blowing it up to make people actually think about doing either, from a strategic point of view

3 RepliesEdited by Totsugeki: 4/3/2016 6:14:32 AMI personally think it needs a nerf. I am not kidding. Coming from someone with hundreds of hours played on a defender, it is a monster. They made it stronger by refilling abilities and surviving razors edge.
i might make a video on why it is the best, but syphax has done it before. He focused on 6 man teams, whereas I can make it slay in rumble and trials. I'll link his vid anyway
http://youtu.be/6G5d9NVlqwU

It would be way more fun and useful if it REFLECTED supers. Someone shoots a nova bomb at you, it collects what energy hits the bubble and fires a nova bomb back. Gets hit with lightning? Fires it right back! Every super destroys the bubble so easily. Maybe even, as the bubble takes more and more damage it gets bigger and bigger. So many ideas out here.
-
Sure why not give defender titans a boost to the duration of the bubble. I would like that
-
1 ReplyDefender underpowered?! Yesterday i played trials against 3 defenders and they farmed the zone in overtime every single round, what could we do?
-
8 RepliesOmg defender isn't hard to use ur just bad at it here's a bunch of anecdotal evidence about all my great plays as defender. Ur actually wrong.
Every goddamn comment in these types of threads ever.
Edited by Kiwi: 4/2/2016 7:35:03 PMJust make the bubble be able to take more damage before being destroyed by supers and enable you to survive (at the very least with all you shield gone, at the most an inch of health) a FOH so if your quick, you can counter. Simple and balanced. I use defender in trials and to be honest, I extremely rarely come across a team that knows what to do when a bubble is placed. Hell if they think you have Armour of Light and have Weapons of Light instead you can pretty much own an entire team for (tricking them) reading you wrong.
-
Maybe make the outer part of the bubble give off a suppression fog? Basically a wide area effect suppression grenade. Then you could make a really cool exotic helmet for the titan that looks as if it expels suppression gas?
-
The suppression should be inside the bubble so the enemy would think twice of entering.
