So I decided to upload this video of this happening as proof that snipers are currently unchallenged in the crucible right now. People like to claim aim assist is the problem and what not but they are wrong. They have no idea what their talking about.
The true issue lies in weapon flinching. I've started sniping a little after HoW dropped and I got to a point where I'm quite exceptional, nowhere near people like kjhovey or TV or even mtashed. But I'm calling them out. Snipers are your crutch. It's sad that you people defend snipers in their current state. They have no negative draw backs. You can miss a shot then oh well you still got time for a follow up.
I've listened to the planet destiny podcast about sniper flinching and just face palmed. I felt like I was the only one that was thinking logically. So basically the guy is saying if I shoot a sniper from his flanks he flinches more than from a head on encounter? How stupid. If I'm flanking a sniper it don't matter how much he flinches because I've already won. But a head on encounter is where it matters the most. Oh snap I carelessly wondered into his sniper lane and I want to live. I'll flinch him out so he can't kill me. Nope the reality is he's nowhere near affected by flinch.
In no encounter should anyone encounter a sniper deliver the first shot and get domed immediately with no struggle on his part. Snipers right now take no skill to use because let's face it they have no contenders. Mida barely phases me. Doctrine of passing is laughable. High caliber rounds pulse rifles are laughable as well. Snipers need to flinch a hell of a lot more than they do now. Why shouldn't I be punished for not being stealthy? If I'm scoped in and a guy shoots me the flinch should be so severe that it forces me to disengage or use my primary. I really wish people would stand up for balance and force bungie to listen. This is not the way to go.

1 ReplyTHEY AREN'T OP, PEOPLE NEED TO STOP WALKING INTO SNIPING ZONES

That's not unfair at all? He gets shot twice then lines back up and shoots the last two guys? He didn't get head shots while actually being hit, just because you're being shot at doesn't mean your aim should be thrown off? If snipers were so bad why didn't the two guys using snipers that he killed kill him? This sections is literally the same as every other complaint in the crucible. People use something to much so everyone complains. I would see myself as a fairly good sniper and even I can easily get outgunned by primaries all the time. As for campers with snipers, just like any other game it's called strategy. Throw a grenade to put them off then push, flank them, blink, peak corners, strafe. It is not hard to beat a sniper. As for snipers beating you close range, if they have the chance to beat your shotgun close range by having the time to scope in and shoot, you aren't doing it right. Yeah they get the lucky shot every once and awhile but majority of the time won't come out as the victor. Skill level comes into it as well, people know how to account for flinch, they know how to account for strafing, they know when to shoot, they aren't retarded. If you can't beat them then stop trying to go that way? Flip a spawn, get a teammate to help out, force them to move.

Snipers are in their spot. Less powerful in this game than most other games. Some can one shot body shot, get aim assistance like a senior in bed and have 20 magazine capacities(?). Only balance is that theirs are bolt action and only one gun in destiny is bolt action (excluding you dragons breath).

5 RepliesLol, When snipers are nerf'd they're going to get nerf'd to the ground.... Just like HoS and then people will find something else to complain about.

Preach on, preacher. Couldn't agree more.

Descoping needs to be in destiny.

People that snipe defenders...

2 RepliesSnipers are only good as the people who hold them . If you can't out snipe then rush

I am not saying that snipers don't have issues but they still a lot more skill than the old shotgun meta. I'd rather get sniped from a mile away with a sniper than a shotgun. That said snipers aim assist doesn't really affect the weapon, and flinch need to be tweaked

I agree I have been sniping since dark below I currently don't own a legendary shotgun or fusion or sidearm on my hunter. Has anyone noticed all the body shots? Most new snipers are trash right now. Yesterday in salvage one guy missed all his ice breaker shots (6) and I was able to pop him with a headshot. Bottom line, sniping takes skill.

Edited by KillrateOmega: 1/23/2016 12:31:00 AMMy proposed changes to Sniper Rifles: 1) Decrease the amount of ammo that Sniper Rifles receive from Special Ammo crates. 2) Increase flinch for Sniper Rifle users when being hit. 3) Decrease their rate of fire as a whole, so that missing their first shot is not as forgiving. Any one of these would be sufficient, in my opinion.

4 RepliesToo much special ammo makes more unskilled battles. Make special scarce and there will be more primary fights while special fights fade away a bit and the ammo you do get is actually used sparingly.
-
Things that could be fixed with limited special ammo.....

1 ReplyYep, snipers are just way to easy to use. People are going to have a wake up call when snipers go though some tweaking. I mean really when I'm sniped from within handcannon range more often than in scout rifle or longer range there is a problem with snipers.
-
You are spot on. No way should I be losing firefights after landing the first three headshots all the time.
-
Bump.
-
I completely agree.

i just started sniping and im not that bad, it just depends on how good you are at sniping. I get out gunned by people that are better at sniping. i was always using shotguns in HoW

2 RepliesEdited by degsX2-the-lost: 1/22/2016 10:54:54 PMI agree with op. If you are taking shots to the face you shouldn't be able to easily headshot. No my k/d is not the best. But if you look at my stats which I am sure you will you can see I am not someone who slide shotguns his way through the crucible. I would just like to see the crucible be more primary based and to achieve this the primary weapon has to be more viable. Right now there is no primary that will outgun snipers. That is a fact and I don't think that is how it should be. Your primary weapon is called your primary for a reason. A special weapon is called special for a reason. So my argument is not that snipers or shotguns or fusions are overpowered or underpowered, my argument is that the primary weapon has no place in the crucible and that stinks

No that was just some nice shooting
