(TL;DR: at the end)
My apologies in advanced if any of my statements seem unreasonable, but I do believe that many will agree with me:
The loot system in the new raid is fundamentally broken. Luke Smith has said explicitly that he intended for this raid to be a bit close to the drop rate of Crota's End as opposed to Vault of Glass. Now, I don't want guaranteed drops after every encounter necessarily - Crota's End gave us everything within 2 or 3 runs - but here's why I believe boss encounters ought to:
Golgoroth is the only place in the raid, other than Oryx, where one can acquire main armour pieces. Even if an armour piece drops, it can be 300, or 310 for Hard. So that's the RNG factor - which piece and what light. To add a "maybe you won't get anything" aspect to it is on par with legendary engrams decrypting into blues in my opinion. If you try to plan around the 1% that just happen to be lucky enough to get consistent high-drops, you leave 99% of the game's population suffering from a merciless grind that can leave us with nothing.
You say that you want a changed loot table from the previous raids; on our first ever raid completion, one of my clan members received nothing but shards throughout the ENTIRE raid. He had 20 mouldering shards by the end as well.
My experience with hard mode is quite similar. Either receiving no drops at all, or 310-311 equipment every now and again.
I understand that you don't want people burning through the content, but there comes to a point where you have to provide a base-line reward for those whom complete the most difficult PvE activity in the game.
I could (and have in the past) level my other characters to run the raid, to improve my chances, but to plan around people doing that is unacceptable. I don't like playing as my other characters and it shouldn't be the case that I am punished for not branching out from the character that I truly perceive as being my Destiny protagonist.
If you truly did intend to have a more consistent and rewarding loot system (again, not asking for all the best equipment to drop, just guarantee SOMETHING from the raid, other than mouldering shards) then please acknowledge that it isn't working as intended and provide the appropriate fixes.
I understand that it is a lot more difficult than what I'm making it out to be, but frustration is getting to me and I've seen countless individuals complaining about how grind-y this raid has become.
TL;DR: there is the possibility of getting nothing in this raid but mouldering shards, the number of RNG factors are unreasonable and this grind-y-ness is turning away many players.
Thank you for your time.

1 ReplyI have said this repeatly they should take m shards and worm spore off boss drops and make so they can only get it from the chests. Plus I hate that you can only get certain things from certain bosses and that onyx never gives out a helmet. Also stop it take ing 20 mording shards off us when we can only get one extra drop a week.

I think having oryx drop a guaranteed piece of 310 or 320 gear would alleviate most of the problems. This would most likely be the easiest fix. The rest of the RNG system would be fine if you where guaranteed 1 decent piece of gear per run.

The burnout is very real in this game ,look at all the posts and comments. I also thougt ,nice changes Bungie , but then i started playing , this dlc has a really unforgiving grind. I played all kinds of mmo games , but this one beats them easily on the shittiest rng ever. They cant change this , there is just not enough content to support this. My friends left already, had almost 3 pages of friends playing Destiny, they moved on,frustration/burnout kicked in hard. Got lucky ,did this raid ones but thats it for me, will move on as well, they just dont get it. Good post . Cheers

This is all true I've completed the hard mode quite a few times and I'm struggling to get anything around 315-318 at least I've completed this maybe every week and on all three of my characters getting 311-313 drops while I see mates who have done it a few times and getting drops 316+ How do you expect people to grind for months while others breeze by. I also recall Luke smith stating that the light system would help you to level up to help progress but two months down the track I've struggle to even get anything over 305 from normal. I had to wait to get the higher gear in hard to get anywhere close to 310 70% of people on my friends list have all moved on to other games as they feel their time spent here is for nothing. I, myself have put in around 2500 hours into this game to have my rng loot absolutely botched, ( took me until taken King release date confirmation to receive a black hammer just to find out it was not being taken along into year two as it legendary form, or the fact that to this day I still have not received a helmet for my warlock from the vault of glass, which I have I think roughly 50 completions on)

Agreed. The raid is way too time consuming for the drop rate being so low. Make hard drops at least 315 and normal 305. That would at least make the items more valuable and with the time. Beating oryx should have a guaranteed 310 drop for normal and a 320 drop for hard of anything armor/weapon

Sheesh... If only I were smart, good looking and maverick enough to compose a post as eloquent as OP's. He's my hero.

34 RepliesEdited by EzE_408: 11/8/2015 6:47:43 AMIt's a good system that is more forgiving than other games that have raids. Learn to earn or go play something else. Participation trophies should never be handed out.

I'm not gonna even try to do the raid. What for? I have to roll the dice to get 320, then have to get all my weapons, ghost, class mark, and armor to be 320 to at least be 319 since my artifact is 310. I'm not going to go through all that noise, if the raid will at least guarantee you a piece of Hard Mode gear (In hard mode of course) for each checkpoint and that are always have a light level higher than mines sure I wouldn't since at least I'm making progress. But having my warlock still having a blue gear mind blows me.

Wow, this guy makes an excellent argument. And so handsome too.

Bump. I have 5 pairs of warlock boots from normal and hard and none have dropped over 307. So frustrating. Many competitions and still no helmet on any of my 3 characters. It's getting old.
-
Need 5 for fresh run hard mode must be 308+ message same as above

Dolfan you -blam!- ass piece of useless trash i hope you get hit by a -blam!-ing Semi

5 RepliesAnother example of how fantastic the loot system is: This week at the Warpriest (on Hard difficulty) I received 3 drops. - Moldering Shards - Antiquated Rune - 300 Rocket Launcher In Hard mode. Which means that if I had done normal mode first, I would've received nothing on that hard Warpriest completion. That seems a tad broken, no?

21 RepliesI personally think there is a simple solution to this. Make the drops based on your level... Example, (1 drop is guaranteed at oryx. Good) Any drops in Kings fall should be at least 1 light level above your current gear... So if you have boots at say 316 you should only get a pair of boots at 317 if you get a pair of boots... If you have a 311 chest it should only be at least 312 or up. You should NEVER get a piece of great weaker than ANY in your characters inventory of equipped if they don't want to do inventory... Tl; dr dropped gear should always increase light level of owned gear by at least 1... You have 311 chest, it therefore chest drops at 312 IF chest drops. Oryx always guarantees 1 piece of gear in hard mode! GREAT IDEA

Raid loot is a complete joke. Time invested in getting this crap a joke.
-
4 RepliesThey said they wanted players in yr2 to be more focused on 1 character rather then playing all 3 to get loot.
-
Bump.

Somebody! Anybody! There's a lunatic in the comments! Please! Help!

Grinding light was a stupid idea ... And I agree with everything you say All of my clan just does oryx hard once a week and pass to other games ... Not to mention that end game gear is not that great
-
yeah, its pretty hosed. In the last 5 runs I had I got almost nothing. I got 3 weapons and 3 pieces of armor. 2 of the weapons were 300, one was 305, the armor was all low, only one was higher than what I had. It's not worth the time and effort getting a team together and doing that shit to walk out with just moldy shards and a few guns that wouldn't infuse a super soaker. I have over 140 completions on the older raids, but I doubt I'll make it to 20 with this raid.
-
2 RepliesI agree but it's already too late to change my mind cuase I'll be Mia for fallout the amount of times my 308 do the daily grind and gets nothing above 299 from blues and legendary engrams and it still gives me shards and even takes 20 off me and gives me nothing is just not on I'll be gone and I probably won't be back.
-
1 ReplyYeah. If the idea is that we're supposed to be using drops for horizontal progression, then having to pray to RNG that you get a drop at all is very counterproductive. I absolutely should be getting an armor piece every run from those bosses since I'm rolling on light, stats, AND perks.
