You see the enemy approach in the distance, a scout breaks from the forest bearing news: the enemy force is of mainly mages, 40 in number; the rest being 40 cavalry, and 20 fighters. They seem to be at a disadvantage for armour, the scout says, but very quick to move, and possibly hard to predict as well. He also saw clouds rolling, the shade providing relief to your men, but more shade in the forests. He suggests caution in your decisions; the forests may be your greatest asset, or your greatest enemy in this battle. You nod, looking to the approaching army. Only 10% of your men and theirs are visible, the rest still breaking the horizon. The time for tactics is now.

Deploy the archers in the edge of the tree line along. Have the Fighters climb into the trees to prepare for an ambush. Heavy infantry will deploy just inside the tree line. Medium infantry deploy behind them as a secondary line. Mages will accompany the heavy infantry. Deploy the cavalry in the field. Keep them out of range of the enemy and use them to lure them into the fields.

The enemy gets closer, still in sight. They seem to be divided into ranks, waves/lines of soldiers advancing. You only see cavalry, but you're sure more are to come. The carry steel weaponry, you see; slightly heavier, and stronger. This means they'll be slightly slower than the same of your unit. The enemy approaches. One turn left until combat.

Edited by DGC LemanRuss: 10/28/2015 8:41:11 PMPull back all cavalry. Place them in position to where they can out circle the enemy. Archers at the ready at the tree line to engage as they close. Pull fighters deeper in the forest. 15 heavy and 10 medium pull away to the left and right flanks to create a funnel to the fighters Mages are to be scattered throughout the infantry.
this will either work perfectly or I already lost
Edited by Alonfé: 10/28/2015 10:45:09 PMThe enemy breaks at the horizon; their columns of soldiers going off in groups to different areas of the field. 3 Mages stay, but why? Their purpose is clear now, as they bombard the open field with fire, the dry grass now alight in a fiery wall of death. There's no crossing that line, so the only flanking routes are through the forest. They divide their forces evenly; 20 mages, 10 archers, and 20 cavalry per side, the mages running deep into the forests, careful not to run into any enemies. The archer's are not present, somehow, and the cavalry ride just inside the treeline, their progress slow, but steady. They still seem rather far... or so you think. The enemy has planned differently than expected. The Scout speaks The enemy holds back... you could strike first, or plan one more turn. Damage NO COMBAT; NO LOSSES EITHER SIDE
