Putting your save data on a USB would be faster. Actually taking the old hard drive out and putting the new one in is insanely easy. Seriously took me less then 5 minutes. Just make sure you have the right screwdriver. Make sure the hard drive dimensions are the right size. Not the amount of storage space, the actual dimensions of it. Don't get one and then find out it's just a smidge too big for your console. Most 2 TB drives should be fine though.
Make sure you have a USB stick with the PS4 operating system on it. MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT ONE. There is a special download of the operating system specifically for when the PS4 hard drive has just been replaced. That's the one you need.
Yes you will need to reinstall AND update all your games again before you can play them. It's a pain but the extra hard drive space is worth it.
