Just never cash in the glimmer consumables with the cryptarch unless you absolutely need to, like Monday night and 20k short for iron banner gear. I have been saving since one or two iron banners ago and have approx 30k in my inventory on each character
Edit: okay, totalled my hunters and it is just over 18k, but still there is no significant cap on the amount that you can hold. Warlock and titan total just over 16k each. Essentially I have 50k in glimmer savings

That is an excellent way to save up money for when things get pricey, but what i was really wanting out of this was a way to reverse the process of consumable to glimmer into glimmer becoming a consumable, so we can go out and actively get more. I've got a couple hundred of those items that you consume to make enemies you kill drop more glimmer, and although i could just spam it into heavy ammo's, id like to use them for their main intended purpose. That, and i dont play enough Prison of Elders to get those Royal Amethysts for money storage (-o.o-) sadly, as fun as it is.

It's unfortunate but the economy in this game is always flowing in one direction. I've also got hundreds of those consumables that turn enemies to glimmer, and it's how I build my glimmer back up in less pressing times, but usually just during nightfalls and weeklys. Haven't had to exclusion zone for a long time. I hate the amethysts, simply because they don't stack, even when they are the same type. So I cash those right away
