The only reason I do the Nightfall (and the reason I always do it first on Tuesdays) is for the XP boost.
I no longer expect to get any decent items as rewards, and I rarely do.
If you're doing the Nightfall for the item rewards and not just the XP boost, you're doing it wrong.
Also, I never buy stuff from the vendors, so I'm fine with getting vendor gear from the N.F., even if I'm only going to dismantle it immediately.

I just want new gear man...the xp would be more useful if I could actually use my gear needing it....

You might be better off playing Vanguard Dragon than the Nightfall. Still plenty of crap rewards, but at least you have more than one chance per character per week.
