On a more serious note.. on one hand Destiny starts with "present day" 93 isn't really that present. On the other hand maybe it's a play off the[url=http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Observer ]mars observer[/url] in which all contact was lost in August 93.... which is also the same month pathways cane out...

To add to this if you go go to at least the patrol area where you begin on Venus and look around all the crates and golden age stuff where you spawn there are what look like MREs or some sort of packaged material dated the year 2008.. This could support your theory of they made contact with voyager in 93 by 2008 they could have certainly have been already setting up on Venus given the abilities the traveler could have blessed on them or just given the governments of earth pouring resources into going to Venus and wasting no time..
