Thorn doesn't need a nerf, it's not that bad as it's made it to be. All weapons were not created equally. That's part of the allure of the game. Each weapon archetype has its own pros and cons. Within each archetype there is a variance to the weapons. This gives a wide possible range of uses. Additionally, some weapons are actually earned in this game. These weapons should be better than the rest, as it is an incentive to earn them.
Now, each weapon also has its own counter. Thorn for example is only as skillful as the hands that wield it. It is easily countered with pulse rifles and scouts rifles, meaning mid to long range. In close quarters your fusion and shotguns dominate it, as well as auto rifles.
Auto rifles do not need a buff, they are actually quite powerful if you play to their strengths. This means you should be using an auto rifle in more of close quarters areas. Most pulse rifles take 5 shots to the body, and takes longer to kill when doing. If you stopped trying to use an auto rifle like a scout rifle, meaning across the map, you'd be perfectly contempt with its abilities in short ranges.
Fusion rifles, I don't have much of an opinion on as I hardly ever have used one, it's not my style.
Overall, the weapons are closer to balanced than they have been since launch. If you play to how each archetype was designed, and counter accordingly, there shouldn't be much of an issue.
Edit - I forgot to mention, that new game type. That is interesting, but I don't think that viable option to eliminate exotics from being used. Removing supers seems more feasible, instead of trying to block a large portion of content in the game.

Agree with with everything except your assessment of ARs. Right now----post 1.1.1----they are BROKEN, they are so UP. With the exception of a few weapons like Monte Carlo and Hard Light which can cause enough camera shake to keep an opponent from fighting back, ARs have been reduced to being AMBUSH weapons. By that I mean, they can't win fights against other mid-range weapons unless they manage to get the drop on the other guy to offset the extended TTK. Keep the range nerf, but roll back the 1.1.1 damage nerf...and THEN you have as balanced a weapon system as this game is ever going to have. ARs will once again be able to keep HCs and shotgunners in check...and Bungie can relax the stranglehold on special ammo.

Ok that's a fair compromise to AR, keeping the ranged damaged down and rolling back to 1.1.1 damage. I think that would work, maybe a slight tweak to that. I see what you mean by mid range, I believe that is the top end of the range for ARs. As right now, they are only performing as close quarters weapons, unless your using one with increased range.

Thorn can be countered by auto rifles, pulse rifles and scout rifles my ass.

I regularly dominate most encounters on thorn with pulse rifles or scouts. I've been using them since day one, so I'm probably more familiar with them being used in pvp than most. I only lose if they get a shot or two on me prior to my shots. A decent strife without perform a thorn user 9/10 without much effort.
