Cool to get for a gift but I'd never spend that much on a headset.

You have to think of it as a investment. For me, this is my headset for the next five years or so, and I don't plan to buy any others within that time frame. So for me, five years at $215 ($50 off sale + gamestop employee discount) for one of the best headsets you can get, is really a no-brainer if you have the cash to spare.
