There really needs to be an undo button if you accidentally dismantle a weapon, gear, or abandon a quest. Similarly, there should be in-game help for these types of issues (i.e. Game Masters that are readily available 24/7 to help with any issues). One example, l most abandoned an exotic bounty quest this past weekend due to game/server lag.
