The d-pad buttons should do more than just action commands for your character. I understand there are players who enjoy them but hear me out. You can leave the current d-pad actions just like they are now (wave,dance,sit down and point) BUT when you are pressing down the L2 button aiming down your weapon the dpad can become shortcuts like for example (left=primary consumable, right=special consumable, down=heavy consumable and up=weapon element swap if available). I think this way the d-pad can be used for both cosmetic and productive purposes.
