based on my experience and no addt'l data elsewhere, when you farm for chests in diff planets, you sometimes get a ship blueprint. but here is the weird part, once i got that specific blueprint, eg crypthammer or quite content damsel, i see everyone having the same ship(friends and random people) having the same ship as i am on that same day. it's like they have a schedule for a specific ship to be obtained by a certain amount of players then they change it up after some time. it's like they are having drops on schedule based on a list instead of a completely random system. analogy •random is when you play a crane game blindfolded and you get a random prize from those items •what i think is happening in destiny: we have meatloaf on the menu today, some may eat. some may not. then the next day, the cycle repeats but with burgers instead of meatloaf. some may eat, some may not. [spoiler]still with me??[/spoiler] in conclusion, it may be that the randomness in destiny is in a sense random but not random enough. [spoiler]my brain just exploded[/spoiler]
