I hit a frog with my lawnmower today.
I'm not lying, it looked like nothing happened to it, there were no external injuries.

I suggest removing the blade and sharpening the cutting edges and you will probably have cleaner cut and healthier grass. Sounds like your lawnmower is just hacking away with a dull blade.
