I would have managed to get tangled in the ropes getting off one of the ships before ever getting in the landing craft. Honestly, I think being in a giant tin can a couple thousand feet above the ground with Flak fire and heavy weapons exploding around me while using a static line would be more comforting than being on one of the beaches. Regardless, those guys had guts. Most went in knowing they'd never see their families again, but pressed on because they believed what had to be done, had to be done. They're the reasons the war in Europe took a turn for the worst for the axis and began benefiting the Allies. Without the Normandy invasion I might be typing in German, or flat out not alive because I don't match up to Aryan standards.
