is it right to leave alone uncontacted tribes?
In the article above the author claims that we should leave them alone to protect their way of life and their land. She says just because they are not as advanced in technology does not mean they aren't civilized.
I think it's obvious we shouldn't take their land from them or make them do anything they don't want to do but it seems arrogant to say that we can't share our knowledge or technology with them as it would destroy their way of life. If we believe them to be just as civilized as us then we shouldn't stay away from them because we don't think they can handle our advancements.
As long as we do not encroach on their land or force anything on them, I think we should approach them and share with them what we know and let them decide what to do.

Leave them alone and study them. Don't make contact. Just watch and observe. Take notes. All that good stuff.

...like the other guy also said....is it bad that I thought of the Krogans from Mass Effect? They were nowhere near space flight and weapons based on the relays. After the Rachni wars they were pretty much "cavemen with bigger stronger guns".

The entire book deals with interacting with an alien species that is technologically inferior. Although colonization began before discovering the species, they quickly prevented themselves from expanding any further than their current surroundings. They literally walled themselves in and viewed the aliens from afar, afraid of destroying or crucially altering their beliefs. How the story progresses helped redefine and emphasize my beliefs on how we should deal with our tribal relatives. Go read the book, I strongly recommend it.

Some South American governments follow a pretty good policy. The tribes are strictly left alone and it is illegal to even attempt to make contact with them. The only exceptions are specially trained doctors sent to give them vaccines so that modern diseases won't wipe them out like what happened to the other natives.

They should fall under their government's jurisdiction. If they refuse to recognise a government they should not be exempt from governing. People will use these "uncontacted" tribes to spread their own ideas of how humans should live, with little regard for the tribes themselves. Technology may be withheld from these people, because someone wants their fantasy of humans-living-with-nature to persevere. This is blatantly wrong. The tribes should be able to choose whether or not they want to adopt foreign technology and culture, but they should not be exempt from their government's governing powers. People can cry all they want about the homogeneity of human culture, but the reality is you only like diversity because it entertains you. Diversity is a cause of conflict, and it obscures any discovered truth. It's more trouble than it's worth.

9 RespuestasLeave them alone, they are a research goldmine. Having those completely isolated tribes also means completely isolated DNA that can be used to pinpoint human evolution and migration, not only has their DNA been frozen in time, but their culture has as well.
