White man attacks elderly black man. It was considered a hate crime.

Looks like knockout game is still going and this man is stupid for attacking someone but the majority of the game's participants are one color and when they go around knocking white people out it's not considered a hate crime. What do you think of this?

As far as I know, none of the suspects in any of the black on white attacks have admitted to any motivation based on race.
