Unintelligent design?

This came up in another thread debating the merits of evolution versus creationism. One of the arguments in favor of evolution, originally brought up by JLx24x and then used by moi, went something like this: Considering everything was designed by an omniscient and omnipotent God, there's some design decisions that are just plain stupid. Take for example the appendix: all it does is get infected, burst, and then kill you if it goes untreated. It's like a biological Red Ring of Death--there is nothing intelligent about it, so why does it even exist? We could also compare it to the tonsils (and if you're an American, the foreskin), which only seem to exist to be health detriments... for the most part, anyway. Other questionable decisions from an allegedly all-knowing deity include ear muscles that aren't developed enough to do anything, wisdom teeth that don't fit in the mouth, and the tailbone, which seems to exist only to OW THAT HURT *funny walk* But all kidding aside, it all seems to indicate that, yes, evolution is real, and those body parts once served a purpose to our distant ancestors. Discuss.
