This is what it should say, but for some reason, whitehouse.gov has a shorter max. post length than b.net. Think of the funds the government would be able to raise if we instate this. There would be many upsides to bringing Gladiators back. 1. More revenue for the government: If the federal government were to regulate this, and built coliseums and the like, they could charge prices for entry (say, $10 for a day’s worth of fights, maybe more, who knows?), charge prices for concessions, etc. etc. We would get more cash inflow, which could help gain control of our spiraling debt. 2. It would deter major crime: Obviously, petty thieves would not be forced into the coliseum, because their offense is minor. But for murder and other seriously heinous crimes where the penalty can be 25 to life, I think many people would be deterred from wanting to kill someone in the first place. Why kill someone, just to be forced into fighting for your life for the rest of your days? 3. It's another option: Don't want to face the death penalty? Here's another outlet. Fight until you die. Some people might prefer that to instant death. 4. It doesn't have to be just criminals: All out of money? No place to go? Join up and fight as a gladiator! Even back in ancient Rome, the gladiators would be fed and get housing, and with today’s luxuries such as mattresses and consistently hot food, a lot of homeless people might prefer fighting for their lives in the arena than on the streets. Non-criminal Gladiators would receive monetary compensation for their performance, and would eventually be able to retire to a better life, whereas criminals, would be freed after their sentence expires. In closing, the creation of Gladiator rings would lower crime, poverty, loss of loss of state and federal funds in the prison system, and overall debt of the U.S. government.
