Character deletion while account inactive
I logged into the D2 Bungie app and noticed after not playing since Final Shape, all 3 of my characters were deleted and a new Titan was created. The account has been inactive since about October 2024 and I wanted to maybe login to walk down memory lane. Either I got hacked and didn't know (never shared my login for Destiny 2) or something on Bungie's back end wiped my account.
All triumphs, achievements, silver, glimmer, and vault are still there but characters I put thousands of hours into, did Day 1's, lowmans, solo flawless dungeon.... gone.

Characters can only be deleted manually, and in-game, so someone has managed to log in to a game client using your platform ID (your actual login, not your visible profile name) and password, and launch the game on it. They then deleted your characters on the character select screen. Because it is not possible to delete all characters at once down to zero, someone doing this would need to make a new character after deleting two of them, which would then allow them to delete the third. So that new Titan is evidence that points towards the deletions being performed manually. Bungie's standpoint is that account security is our responsibility.
