I think most active players will agree when I say: "Destiny 2 is best enjoyed with a group." I personally believe going into TFS, that fact, is Bungie's biggest problem and greatest ally. I would also be willing to say that Fireteam Finder(FF) has been a relative success, given the sentiment about it I've been seeing on social media. While FF was certainly a step in the right direction the clan system in Destiny 2 has remained largely unchanged since launch. The need to group up in Destiny could be addressed in so many ways, after being a clan leader for many years I have some thoughts on it.
If clan membership could be incentivised more for new players and veteran players alike it would directly impact player retention week over week. As it stands, clans serve one real purpose: To have a group for in game activities that can't be easily solo'd. Sure we get a few engrams every week as rewards for completing certain goals. But, those engrams are most useful during a small portion of the player lifecycle.
Our clans should provide a display of our legacy, giving new players something to strive for, and veteran players something to be proud of. It should provide benefits that have players focused on growing the clan and it's list of achievements to unlock those benefits. And finally the clan system should be the premier way for players to learn and improve, all despite social interaction.
Ideally to see this come to life, we would be given Clan halls that are highly customizable. Since checkpoint bots are a 3rd party idea that is almost mandatory in week to week play this should be made into a feature. For example once the clan has completed a raid, or dungeon this reset, the checkpoints of it can be accessed via the clan hall. The Clan hall should also include a places to fight enemies at various difficulty levels and densities to test build crafting. It could also just be a horde mode for clans to play. I really think bringing better support to clan play could help alleviate the disparity between casual players and "no-lifers( 😜Myself included )." Because casual players could use a clan hall as a way to learn things with their time more efficiently.
