SBMM is working very well for the vast majority of players (everyone within the first and third quartiles of the population bell curve). By what logic would Bungie remove something that’s working for most of its players?

  • It’s not a matter of you and I agreeing. In fact, I wholeheartedly agree that permanent servers are technically superior to peer-to-peer networking for on-line game activities. What I’m helping you understand is there is a non-technical business aspect to the problem you present which outweighs the technical advantage of this request. Bungie will not shell out big money and rewrite core code just to appease a minority of its player base, even though the affected players are the top n% PvPers. Come up with an alternative that would cost Bungie nothing and that could gain traction.

  • and I’m 100% agreeing that there a lot of positives to sbmm but the biggest negative to it is currently outweighing all of those and creating a horrible pvp experience at the moment because sbmm just doesn’t work with P2P

  • Except SBMM is working perfectly well for hundreds of thousands of players.

  • Actually, no. I can speak for everyone I play with. And the other players I encounter in SBMM matches who never glitch around. And we can all see for ourselves that it’s working from Bungie’s own reports and actions. The problem you suffer is a minority problem. Sorry you are affected.

  • You play with “hundreds and thousands of people”? seriously stop speaking for everyone. Here’s a link to a recent post further backing up my point. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/254398050/0/0

  • Now you’re grasping at straws. Geolocation issues are rampant for unrelated causes like VPN utilization and the “top player problem” (outliers in the bellcurve at both the top and bottom of the skill population). Doesn’t change the facts presented here. You can’t convince Bungie to rewrite core code and shell out big money for permanent infrastructure and packet load based on issues they already know about, which affect outlier players, not the vast majority. Seriously, I get it. It sucks to be so good because peer-to-peer is horrible. But SBMM puts the rest of us in great matches and average players like me are really enjoying it.

  • I’m not “forcing them to rewrite core code” I’m suggesting they remove sbmm because I know they can and I know they won’t add dedicated servers

  • You’re original post assumes “everyone” is having a bad experience from SBMM. That’s factually incorrect. I don’t see any networking issues, whatsoever. Neither does anyone I play with. SBMM is the best thing to happen to Crucible in a very long time for average players like myself and other players who post the same to these forums. If you want CBMM, just play the modes which still support it.

Statistics speak for the vast majority, which I am a member of. If there was a problem affecting the population between the first and third quartiles, Bungie would be making changes. Sorry you aren’t a scrub like the rest of us. :)
