Okay, once again, because apparently I wasn't clear enough, even though I wrote it in caps. Here we go:
[u][i][b]OPTIONAL MATCHMAKING.[/b][/i][/u]
That means you have the OPTION to find people through matchmaking. You are not in any way obliged to play the nightfall with randoms. You can still play it alone or with your friends.

Guided games is not what people were looking for. -
They did that, and it wasn’t optional. It’s apparently beyond Bungie to manage that. But if that’s what you want, then you already have it. Guided Games and the forums are both places to match make. You just have to use them.
