In Destiny 2 does the Traveler get destroyed?

Has anyone else noticed in the released images and video of Destiny 2 there is, what looks like, a very large broken spherical object, with an energy cloud inside and lightning striking it etc., on earth (hopefully the linked image comes through with this post)? As this is so large that the piece of it is bigger than the mountains it sits within, it has to be something of the scale of the Traveler. Thus my question is this the ruins of the Traveler and thus is it the Traveler destroyed in the battle with the Red Legion?

  • That's a shard of the Traveller, as confirmed above. Probably dislodged by Rasputin. In the original lore the Traveller was bouncing from system to system running from “The Darkness." The Traveller hit Earth, Golden Age, blah blah blah, then the Darkness shows up, the Traveller tries to pull a runner, and Rasputin's defense protocols kick in, realizing that if the Traveller leaves, there's nothing left to stop the “Darkness" from wiping out humanity completely, and uses his super-obscure-space-weapon-things-we-don't-know-$&@#-about and stops the big floating golf ball in its tracks, and proceeds to passively monitor the Guardians and nearby Last City and Tower.
