Regarding your first spoiler (the second doesn't apply), you make a fair point, but aside from the company making money, there is no benefit to this system.
Also, since there is no way to sell or trade emotes they have no actual value. They're just a way for the most dedicated players to show support.

Fair enough. My point is though that Bungie is walking a thin line. I feel that soon it's going to wind up full pay-to-win, or even fee-to-pay, which is even worse.
