YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR SHOTGUN EQUIPPED THE ENTIRE BOSS FIGHT
BUT
YOU ONLY NEED TO SHOOT THE BROTHERS WITH IT A FEW TIMES
after that you can use whatever primary and heavy you want, but do not unequip your shotgun
