After reading the whole book. I believe that eris at the end of the story is talking to one of Oryx's sisters, because they always are trying to kill each other. I believe that the smart sister had eris help the light to defeat him so she can step in and take power.
If you have read the book you know that oryx and his sisters split up to each gain power, because there presences were holding each other back. Oryx even says that he is worried about his siblings, stating that they may even have surpassed him in power.
Keeping all of this in mind I believe that eris is a traitor, but is working against oryx so that a different hive ruler can take over. So as she says "my queen" she is not talking to Mara sov, but one of Oryx's sisters.

In the opening cinematic Mara Sov makes reference to her "hidden" friend. A later cinematic has Eris referencing her Queen. Doubt that much is a coincidence. But...what if Mara Sov is one of Oryx's sisters?

I doubt it, Oryx's sisters are similarly powerful to him now.

I believe she is talking to/about Mara Sov. It was shown that Eris and Mara has a lot of communication and meetings before the Battle of Saturn

I believe she gained the awoken's trust and the queens trust under the order of her true queen. The awoken "waiver between light and dark" which is why I believe they did not sense anything wrong with eris. Having the awoken's trust then gave her credibility with the vanguard so they overlooked the darkness inside of her. I believe that one of Oryx's sisters put a worm in her, and shielded her from crota. This is really the only thing that I have come up with that explains how she could survive down there for so long. PS. Thank you for responding, I'm a giant lore junky and I love what you and your group does.

Toland gave her techniques to survive amongst the Hive, which probably included swallowing a worm

We also know that worms have control or at least incredible influence over there host. Also my claim about eris using the awoken is supported by the statement "the awoken have served there purpose" I would say that Toland represents the biggest whole in my theory, simply because I have yet to find anything to link him to it.

"The awoken are my family now" (opening cutscene) implies they weren't always.unless I misunderstood it.

I kinda feel like Mara is one of oryxs sisters/was possessed by their essence. Either her or Eris, maybe both but I doubt it.
