So there have been some great changes to Destiny with the expansions and with the latest material exchange at the speaker, I had hope...hope that Glimmer could actually buy useful things. It can a ship and two shaders from Rank 3 Petra Venj. Other than that it upgrades stuff and that's really the only use. Here is what I recommend, fairly easy changes and I think the Destiny community can agree. A) Allow the Cryptarch and Banshee to sell Rare Engrams at Level 10. I think 2500-5000 glimmer would be fair. Allow them to sell Legendary at Level 20, I think 7500-15000 glimmer would be a good range. These Legendary engrams could contain random (Shards, Energy and Treasure Keys) B) Sell Faction Emblems AND Shaders at 15,000 glimmer a pop. C) Sell Etheric Light. Why? Because at 25,000 glimmer it takes a player a lot of time to get, but still obtainable by simply investing time in Destiny. This would make it balanced for recreational players who play here and there but don't do or have time for PoE and ToO. Of course I am no genius so realize my glimmer costs may be too much or too little.
