I think that a less extreme version of this would be acceptable. Having the guy drive him off and say he wouldnt see his mom again, let the kid cry and freak then stop off near his mom and have the disscusion. But the whole gun and blindfold and basemt is to far, that kids guna be twitchy for along time

It'll keep him away from strangers but he's still not gonna trust his mom when he finds out she set the whole thing up. Bad idea if you want your kid to do what you say.

I can see where your coming from, but I stand by that a less extreme version would be ok
