Oh agreed.
I believe they will, eventually. I really don't think anything was put into this game as a dead end. Ships, class items... they might not be much now, but they will be down the road. That's his Bungie rolls, I think.

It's really exciting, when you think about it. We've been shown how destiny is a flexible platform. I foresee class items as modifiers, or story lines that you can work against (like, wear Eris's cloak to progress a Hive storyline and equipment). And ships... Space battles, anyone? Woof.
