PVP Help

So if you are anything like me, you are terrible at PVP! I hate asking for help with it in the main Destiny forums because people usually say things like "git gud kid!" Which is completely NOT helpful! My first offering is from BDobbinsFTW (yes, the same guy who pooed all over the "disc locked" DLC). I think this is a pretty good starting point, though very AR focused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEzUT1dateg I have my own kind of theory for improvement which I need to follow myself. 1. Have a plan based on your weapons and map. Using a void shotgun for the Thorn bounty? Great, stick to the choke points! 2. Learn to use the radar. It tells you the general direction, and the color will tell you if they are on your level (red), or not (not-red). If you're center is flashing, be ready to melee or shotgun! 3. Suck horribly for a while. In my opinion, Destiny is a game where knowledge can trump skill in many places. When you go around getting killed a ton, you start to learn to avoid the areas where you die a bunch because of your weapons/abilities. A light will go on when you see someone else doing the same dumb thing you were just doing, and you get the kill on them! You'll start to figure out the choke points, sniper areas, and close quarters areas of a map. 4. Let them come to you. So I am terrible at this. I'm thinking of recording my games now because I'm so terrible just to show you what not to do! Like doors for example. You see a door that you know opens and closes. Don't open it. Just don't. Let someone else do it and get shot. When you see it moving, get out of the way and let them come through. Chances are, they backed off and are looking for you! Use the radar to see if threats are in the direction of the door. Hang back and be ready with grenades or a fusion rifle. Think about Firebase Delphi with those big doors that open to the middle area. You stand in front of the door when it opens, you're a sitting duck for anyone on the other side! Hang back and let them come to you! 5. Finally, the most important, Heavy Ammo. Who doesn't love it?! Get it when you can, use it to kill as many folks as you can (look at 1-4 there, remember just because you have your HMG full of ammo doesn't make you Rambo. You will get killed!). Also, watch your radar! If you see a bunch of enemies focused on the drop area, all greedly loading it up, if you have a super ready, unload it! I wish I could be that cool with a warlock's nova bomb or with my titan's fist of havoc.... That would make for a sweet gif if I ever got that good! So here's my basic advice, which I stink at following myself. Please share whatever PVP advice you can!

  • So I was remembering my best crucible match, it was on good ole' Firebase Delphi! I've been slammed with life recently so here's another bit of hopefully helpful strategy. FBD is a mostly symmetrical map based around the central room and the crossroads chamber as I call them. The Central Room is control point B. The Crossroads is the area you can jump to with the missile rack over the center. FBD is a great map for any play styles. You can snipe across the long internal hallways or through the windows. There's lots of room for using your fusion rifles, and several close areas for shotgunning. I'm not going to go super in-depth here, but here's my tips for those of us who stink at Crucible. 1. You can hit people across the central room. 2. The big open crossroad and side rooms separated by doors are death traps. They are mostly open and you'll end up in gun fights which are difficult to when versus more skilled players. 3. The windows are great places to snipe from and to, as well as a very fast escape route. 4. The outside can be a great place to go hide while your health regens. Just watch out for LOS from the windows! Also the cap point for C is out there, so be watchful there. 5. Best bet for racking up kills is to watch the center room and the crossroads. I found fusion rifles to be really effective here. You can create a great choke point using titan bubbles here (I just got my Helm of St. 14 the blinding ability! Can't wait to try it out!). I really like this map because it's very diverse. It could also be the one I've played the most...Hrm..

  • So, let's talk about Maps. I'm going to try to spend a few minutes talking about each map. Please feel free to add your input. First off is Asylum, a new TDB map. It takes place on Venus in an overgrown part of the city. To me, this is a great map for working on the Thorn bounty as it has a really good long central corridor for sniping, lots of little chambers for Shotguns, and plenty of special and grenade work. There are lots of windows to jump and grenade through as well. The big thing you have to watch out for are the "overwatch" positions along the central area. There are balconies where a good team can hole up for a bit and tear you to pieces. If that happens, your best bet is to hang back and avoid the area. The stairs and hallways that lead to either the high room or the low room with the pillar are excellent choke points for you get people with grenades and shotguns. I've only had one match there, and I got smoked pretty badly trying to fusion rifle it. It seems to be a much better snipe or shotgun map. Or I'm just really bad with fusion rifles (I'll own that!). In any Crucible game match, if you see a group stuck together with a titan bubble or four, then don't approach at all. Keep your team away and force them to come to you. Stragglers lack support and tend to be easy pickings. I hope this helps. I'll talk about another map as well. Remember, I'm just some moron online, if you have better ideas, please help me out!
