I agree that the game is not perfect, but there is more potential here than we have ever seen on a console before. Destiny is an ambitious project, and it's going to have issues. It will be a very different game a year from now, and I'm willing to let it grow before declaring it as total shit.
I took the coder's response at face value. I'm sure he's a highly intelligent guy with a team of highly intelligent people. If they can't find a quick fix, there probably isn't one.

Edited by Matu Flp Krawfe: 2/2/2015 6:32:20 PMDestiny is a project that's been marketed as ambitious. Take away the pretense and what you have, in short, is ODST forced into a generic MMO model. Even generic MMO's have greater scale and depth to them (ex. Warframe, Tera, STO) while your typical action/online/shooter console game (ex. Sunset Overdrive and Borderlands) does much more interesting things with gameplay and environments. And of those ambitious technical projects we've seen on the consoles (ex. Titanfall's gameplay structure, Forza 5's AI) they produced something worth remarking upon at release, not at an as yet undefined point in the future via entirely unknown and unforeseeable means. Deferring to authority is right when it comes to technical matters (ex. just how the hell are they going to sort out this particular bug, you certainly don't have the training and relevant information to suggest a fix.) but its not right to defer to authority when it comes to a general opinion. You are certainly capable of interpreting the general shape of a video game, even if how it works would require a full course program.

I guess I'm happy with the game. As a casual player, I don't really care if my heavy ammo doesn't spawn correctly.

Edited by Matu Flp Krawfe: 2/3/2015 2:22:40 AMBut I care if the boss AI can be broken by having two people stand at opposing ends of a map. I'm by no means "hardcore" but despite that normally placid approach to game design I must say that what Bungie has created here has no merit (except as a case example) and how they've proceeded from there to be doubly infuriating. I could go on and one and on about the AI, plot, writing, level design, art, gameplay, RPG aspects, MMO aspects, the bugs, and focus of the game (ie. grinding) even from my likewise "casual" point of view but something tells me that you wouldn't really care. That isn't to say that you should (if you're not interested you aren't interested), but if you're that lax in your approach to video games it is a little odd to chime into a discussion about them. You're here, and one might assume from that you do care about something this game has done something very bad to, but this is something for you to reconcile with.

Thanks. I'll take it under advisement. Considering I didn't know what an MMO was before playing this game, I'm pretty happy with how it's progressing. Don't be so cynical.

Edited by Matu Flp Krawfe: 2/4/2015 1:46:14 AMI'll try to keep that in mind as well, its easy to hate when you feel that the game itself is being cynical. I've had a very long time spent with Bungie and their approach to genre's (not just the MMO) is probably something that's firmly "under my skin." Back in Halo they pretty much stopped tinkering with any meaningful aspect of the FPS with Halo 3 and instead fixated on accessory features/gimmicks (depending on your point of view.) They reached a point where they didn't see how the genre could evolve, and instead focused on glorifying what they had already created while trying to find sideshow attractions (like Armor Abilities) under the mistaken assumption that nothing more impactful could be done (which games like Titanfall have soundly refuted, though I say that Star Wars Battlefront 2 was already showing what more could be done even before the Xbox 360/PS3 console generation.) They've taken the same approach again with Destiny (looking for what else you can do with shooters besides change any fundamental relationships or responses of bullets, explosives, and faces) but what's more infuriating this time is that they've also cynically approached the MMO genre as well. Their take is behind par for even early WOW, and there's a lot in Destiny that doesn't make any sense (ex. over-leveled enemies in patrols) except as token MMO scenarios without the content or context that made those features work in the first place (like subsequent areas you get to explore once you reach a given level.) And then you have even the more egregious failing of the writing and voice acting which make a mockery of the human oral story telling tradition, never mind gaming. And then you have the liberal attitude towards intellectual property rights with the art of Destiny (for example: the cabal are plagiarized Space Marines from Warhammer 40k. I know there is such a thing as "fair use" but that certainly doesn't cover this magnitude of homage for profit.) Anyway, while you could just ignore what's not there and play Destiny fairly contentedly (its a very polished game, ie. there's no hard edges to push you out of the experience. You're free to smoothly play and play and play and play) but in having some experience with just about any other game its hard to find Destiny acceptable under any terms except those popularized by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (its shit, but its unintentionally hilarious [which is why in fact I bought the game, I didn't have any illusions it would be good, but I still wasn't prepared for how bad it could get beyond the beta]). Play Sunset Overdrive, Halo 4, Titanfall, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, Warhammer 40k Space Marine, Skyrim, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Saints Row 3/4, Borderlands 2, or Firefall and you'll not only have a reasonably polished game, but one that actually achieves some depth in either the Shooter or the MMO/RPG depending (and yet most of those have had to do with far less than Bungie had access to in order to make Destiny.) --------------- I guess you could say that Destiny presents a confluence of issues that would lead one like myself to launch a crusade against it. I'm sorry if that's been a bit too heavily pushed onto you, but do keep in mind that behind the mask there is some very serious things one can take issue with about this game. Are they the end all? Perhaps not, depends on priorities and I WILL make a point of remembering that in future.

They've been told about it for over four months. There's no excuse why this isn't fixed yet.
