Go to the recruitment folder and start looking for a group to do The Vault of Glass. Let the group know it's your first time and you're learning it. They'll teach you eat part. One full run in the VOG can get you 10-12 ascendant materials (if you break down any armor/weapons you get). If you're a Lower level, the armor could also be good for you. The weapons you can earn are also very strong, even later in the game as 300 dmg.
