  • I like staying true to the books and the last two weren't very true to the books, some bits could've been better and were just meh

    The problem with staying true to the books is that you can stay [i]too[/i] true to the books. What works on paper doesn't always work so well on screen. For example, it would have been impossible to make a faithful film adaptation of OotP without clocking in at over four hours. A better example is Voldemort's monologue at the end of GoF about how he was able to return to power. On paper, that sort of thing is really interesting, but on film, it would have been incredibly boring. Just imagine Ralph Fiennes prattling on about Ludo Bagman and Bertha Jorkins for ten minutes straight. That would have been unbearable. Books have time to ponder and languish. Movies need movement and momentum.
