The only exotic weapons you can earn are the thorn, bad juju, super good advice, pocket infinity, or the invective from the exotic bounties. This game is based off RNG so earning any other exotic is not possible.

That's true. And technically if you bought something from Xur, you did earn it. You had to earn the SC earned from Weekly or from Rare Engrams. Obviously if you buy it from Xur its guaranteed.
