I would say government corruption is the biggest , but not the most important. You will never have a perfect government, so as long as money (or greed in general) exists, that will never be fixed. Environmental is the most important in my mind. America is drying up like a raisin (look at California and Lake Mead for shitsakes), and some places are becoming more crowded. For a person of my standards, I live in a farming town of 8500 people, we have plenty more than enough water to go around, and life is good. When I go to a city, scares the shit out of me to think that other countries have bigger and less spacious cities, and on top of that, less basic supplies to go around. But it's not just that. The world in general is changing, and certain environments are becoming inadequate to live in. Edit1: the environment will continually be destroyed, because the industries that destroy it are the ones bringing in the cash flow.
I live in Southern Alberta, where your average folk are conservative white people, with the average family owning 3 or more trucks and 4 off-road vehicles.
• I would just like to say, this is a perfect example of why I asked for point of views. As someone living in a suburban town just outside of multiple cities on the east coast, I would at first think to disagree with you, but you are coming from a completely different point of view that serves a purpose for your assertion, so thank you for that. Stuff like that is "perspective-opening" I guess you could say. So, how do you think we can move towards solving/mitigating this environmental problem? And do you think the solution will detract from other operations of humanity?

 • Science could solve the world's problems, but our brightest are too busy developing technologies that generate capital. We do have technologies breaking through that are helpful, but nowhere close to the rate they could/should be.

 • But would more attention being payed on scientific ventures be better or worse than less attention being payed on overall anti-environment ventures?

 • Depends what part of the science industry the attention is going to. Even finding new methods to cheaply filter (I forget what the word is for the process) salt water into potable/fresh water, that could go a very, very long way into helping. Finding more efficient and clean sources of energy. We already have a pretty good handful of those, just need to expand on them.
