Unfortunately for most, the Internet is on a steady pace of doing whatever the frick it wants with little thought for everyone else

Because of this generations loss of moral values (from my experiences I don't know if it's the same everywhere here) which makes it easier for people to stay in the pre-conventional stage of life (in psychological terms) because they don't care about the action until there is a possibility of facing punishment.
