Why does the earth have so few craters but the moon has like a zillion?

Because the moon acts as a gravitational shield for the earth. Also the moon barley has an atmospheric shielding. Part of the beautiful thing of having an atmosphere is that it burns things up before they can enter it. So fortune favors us in that sense. Astrophysics major, so I'm thankful it was a question I have enough knowledge to answer.
