That is strange posably disconnected before the game was able to save data or while in the process of transferring. Or you may have dismantled it out of habit.
Either way sadly bungie can not restore lost equipment or characters
You will have to grind it out again

^ That. Bungie doesn't or can't restore lost and dismantled items/gears, but is able to give a brain surgery patient an exotic weapon that doesn't exist anywhere else in the game universe. Makes you think. ;-)
