I am not sure if this is a possible explanation but I noticed when I was running the VOG before the DLC came out, that the boots I got were sometimes different (in stats) than the exact same boots I got from the raid earlier.
It may be possible that you can get different stats with exotics as well (I don't get them enough to know if this is really the case). Also it is entirely possible that items you get from drops post DLC may be better than items you upgrade through xur. Anyways that's my thoughts. I have no idea since it's almost three weeks since I played (and I am dying to get back).

Exotic stats don't change And every weapon or armor obtained after the DLC is supposed to have ascended values Thanks anyway though

Lol I tried. I didn't get much of a chance to see the changes made in the DLC since I only got to play for a week, but thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure anyways.
