As I remember the Goblins (Orcs) and Wargs were considered one army, then there were the Dwarves, Elves, Men, and Eagles.
It may also be that the Goblins and Wargs were two of the armies, with Dwarves, Elves, and Men being the other three. The Eagles may just be considered auxiliary since they came in later
They're giant eagles. Ancient, immortal creatures. They're a crucial part of The Hobbit and a somewhat important part of LotR. There are many oversized creatures in Tolkien lore. Eagles, bats, spiders (the latter two are generally evil), etc. There's also Beorn who is a shapeshifter that turns into a giant bear.
