I think your strange coin equation is a bit off. You don't take into account any additional or duplicate exotic drops. For instance, if you were to acquire an exotic, post dlc, and that exotic was a duplicate of a gun/armor you already had, you would not need to pay the 7 coins at Xur [i]and[/i] you'd receive a shard(7 coins) for dismantling the old one. It's effectively 14 coins you don't have to earn.
In a previous post, you said something about having ~30 exotics. So, I'll just use that as a 3 month net. Obviously, you may earn more or less than this within the next 3 months, depending on several factors. For the sake of argument, lets assume that 50% (15) of those exotics are duplicate drops.

Since you can run weeklies on 3 chars, you can earn 351 coins in that manner (13 weeks worth). Outside of that, I tend to earn an average of 7-10 coins/week just through playing strikes and crucible, also I've never had a problem affording an exotic engram from Xur with motes, so you can probably add an additional shard (7 coins) per week in that manner, as well. The next step is comparing our need to what we can expect to earn:

Naturally, this doesn't account for exotics you had to purchase from Xur for coins (your original formula [i]does[/i] assume that we magically have all exotics in the first place), but it does inform us that with a vigilant play schedule, it's definitely possible to level up any exotics we currently have and a number of additional exotics we acquire from drops. I would suggest only buying what you need, from Xur. I understand that you're a completionist of sorts, so I feel for you, but you may need to leave out a few exotics.

It's fair to point out that drops will reduce the Strange Coins needed- but it's not reasonable to assume that his current 30 exotics are all drops. If he's like me (or most of my friends) the majority of his current inventory is Xur-purchased.

But even if we use a highly conservative estimate of 5 duplicate drops in 3 months (exo bounties would count toward this total, as well as rng from crucible/strike/engram/etc) we would get: [quote](14*36)+(24*7)-(14*5); (504)+(168)-(70) = 602; (602)-(351)-(91)-(91) = 69; 69/14 = 4.93[/quote] So, you would still be able to upgrade a great deal of exotics, all but 5, according to this unrealistic equation. The point remains the same, however. Using Strange Coin acquisition as a basis of contempt for the new system is a stretch, or perhaps a bit dramatic. Thanks, Mango.
