Hmm, OP...what mmo games used a small dlc to reset progress, a mere 3 months after its initial release? Quit trying to make an offbase comparison.

I don't understand how it's an off base comparison. Games require patches to update and add new content. In my history I've seen patches and expansions add, take away, and reset all kinds of variables. City of Heroes is a great testament to that. So is Anarchy Online. The point here is: I am very appreciative that I can CHOOSE to build upon my progress instead of scrapping everything in favor of a few new shiny things.

  • My point, and the reason I think your comparison is offbase, is that the major mmo games have expansions, with huge amounts of new content and come out annually or semi annually. None that I've ever heard of would release a few new missions and one raid and call it an expansion. And they defo don't do it 3 months after the initial release of the game.

  • It doesn't reset your shit everytime, within 3 months time. That's the point, comprehension - man.

  • That's why destiny is obviously on a smaller scale. ...yet they do EXACTLY the same song and dance a game like wow does

  • It's the attribute that I'm comparing here. New content releasing and making old gear obsolete is irritating and archaic. What I'm insinuating is that Bungie is on the right path and doing is ALL a favor by allowing us to upgrade our current exotics to the next level. Someone with our experience, as it appears you know where I'm coming from, we know how annoying it is to have to replace old gear. We have sunk hours upon hours in to our avatars and their trinkets, working on what we perceive to be perfect; only in a matter of months or days do we see it all ripped away and replaced by the next "green" that drops. This is a perfectly viable solution to avoiding the feeling of loss and I commend Bungie for it. It's not like we're losing anything, they're just making what we have better. Do you really want to have your Hard Light replaced by a green auto rifle? No! You want it to grow with you in a new experience! It's not about time frame, content comes when it comes. Look at FF14: A Realm Reborn. That game was STARVING for content, they couldn't push it out fast enough (I can't speak for it currently as I stopped somewhere around April) I played that for about 6 months and experienced 3 content patches that rendered everything I did previously useless (I was an end game raider). Annoying! I would have loved to see all of my previous gear be able to "ascend" further. The comparison here comes from years of my own personal gaming history and the experiences I've had, compiled with the perception that I've acquired of what an "MMORPG" is (what it has to offer, it's content, how it's delivered) to me. I've previously annotated that Destiny does not fit the literal definition of MMORPG, but the game offers up enough to fall in the same family. What everyone in this community is experiencing is a boon, despite that they can't see that, and those of us from a long standing history of progressive content can understand.

  • Awhile I do appreciate your positive stance and have adopted a "wait and see" attitude toward these changes, I do think this game and it's player base is different than those traditional mmo models. Bungie needs to communicate a little more, since alot of this is uncharted territory. For this leg of the game, I would've rather seen extra upgrade circles added than a complete reset of the weapon. The grind could still be there (and let's face it, the "grind" is just shooting bad guys, which is fun and what this game does right) and no one would feel shafted. I just think this is too soon and to call it an "expansion" is misleading. It's a dlc and these sweeping changes just seem like a beta change or a traditional expansion. Again, I'm going with a "wait and see", hoping things pan out and are still fun. I also only have 6 maxed exotics (not including armor), so it doesn't affect me as much as some of the more hard core among us. Anyway, good discussion here. Thanks for not calling people names and shit, which seems to be the norm around here when opinions vary.

  • No doubt, we all just want the same thing, in the end...sweet gear and badassery.
