The most memorable ban that I've ever received was from a carpet ban from a thread mass spamming "ya totes". That was back around 2010. Needless to say, I haven't been banned in quite a while; probably since 2010/2011.

  • Everyone says 'inb4 carpet ban' but I've never really seen any recent cases of this.

  • I don't think they can do that anymore. It seems that moderation has been cut back in terms of power (even after the whole mute system failure). Threads aren't locked anymore, they can't become old (where you couldn't post after two months of the last reply), and alts don't seem to be banned even when you don't clear your stuff after you sign out of your banned account. So it really wouldn't surprise me.

  • I didn't know those specific limitations were in place, thanks for the fun facts.

  • No problem. They used to be, but no longer. I honestly wouldn't mind the return of such limitations as they were necessary to an extent. There also used to be forum specific rules and rules that you actually could follow.

  • I remember somebody made a thread comparing us to the ubisoft forums and stated 'this is how forums actually are. Well kept, orderly and on topic. We get away with so much here'. Don't know if that's good or bad

It's a double edged sword. The old website, with the rules it had, did keep things on topic and orderly. However, that restricted a lot of what we could talk about and made the atmosphere more formal than social. And even with the strict rules, there were still trouble makers. While it's true that those who misbehaved were discouraged and pretty much shut down immediately on the old site, it's not like it's out of hand on here. Tbh, I prefer the way things were on the old website, but like I said, it's not like things are unbearable here. I suppose I just liked the atmosphere and security of the old website. Edit: I don't even want to get into how the layout is better on the old website and how private groups were infinitely better, as it's a bit off topic, but I will if you want. I'll link you the old rules when I get home. I'll also tell you about the title system and how it contributed to keeping everyone in line.

I'd be interested in hearing about the comparison of you're willing to put out the effort in telling me about it.

  • I can do better than that; I can show you. This is what the old #OffTopic looked like. Granted there were top forum topics still up and threads didn't have that decayed icon (that's what they look like after two months without a post and they got locked down), it's pretty much what it looked like. This is what the #Community forum looked like. Again, the same with The Flood, it looked a tiny bit different. Here's the old forum rules. Here's a cool thing that we used to have called a title system. Also, be sure to compare how private groups used to be with how they are now. Feel free to explore the other forums and the like of the old website.

  • No problem. It's really cool to see how the website has changed over the years. Once you're done with all of that, I can even show you earlier versions of the website.

Yes. There used to be an earlier version back in the Halo 2 days. And another (I think it was actually a whole other website) back in the Halo CE days.
