ACT advice

So flood, I'm taking my ACT in 12 days and I'm kinda stressing out. I have already taken my SAT and that went alright, but I have an EMT course and I'm just trying to balance all this schoolwork. Anyone who has taken the ACT would like to pass down some life savers? Pls

Just try to stay calm. Most people do worse just because they let the idea of the ACT get to them. Study if you feel you need to (suggest using the practice tests on the collegeboard site), but don't go overboard. I know people who have taken classes entirely devoted to conquering the ACT. They almost always do very poorly, at least on their first try. And remember, you can always try again.

      • For me the reading section doesn't give you enough time, so practice reading and picking out stuff from reading sections.

Practice the math, you need to do it fast. Time yourself. You get approx 1 minute per question, but it will feel like 30 seconds. The rest is easy. Also, bring a snack and maybe a coffee, but eat it before you go in. YOu can't snack during the test, and the first break isn't until after the math portion.

                    • I took it a while ago in sophomore year, literally did nothing, walked in, got a 31 over all and a 34 in science. Don't stress and you'll do fine.

Take it multiple times unless you get an absolutely outstanding score on your first try. I did it 3 times and got a 32. I was very happy with that. Some tips. There will be a lot of questions that you have no fcking clue how to solve. This is normal and expected. Study calculus as much as you can. Derivatives, integrals, related rates, the whole lot. Over preparing is the best strategy, but ask your math teacher specifically what they'll be asking, concept wise. Science is another big one. You'll need decent amounts of chemistry knowledge and also just general scientific critical thinking skills. When you get to the reading part, they purposely do not give you enough time to read the stories. Learn how to skim through them and get only the parts you need.

The usual. Plenty of sleep, a good breakfast, and some caffeine. Make sure to study, but don't stress yourself out over it

                      • I took the ACT in 7th grade for the Duke TIP program and it wasn't insanely difficult. My problem was that I didn't know most of the problems because I was in 7th grade and not an 11th grader
